 class of 2011
Year 12 2011 of St George Girls graduated today!
Ms Whitehead (our year adviser and my chemistry teacher) gave a very funny yet emotional speech. She mentioned some life quotes relating to birds and how they tell us that our world is like an oyster shell. She said this is because oyster shells are easy to open so we can get pearls out of them. But then she contradicted this  with facts about how there is only a 1 in 10,000 chance that we'll ever naturally find a pearl in an oyster shell and that there is only a 1 in 1,000,000 chance that we'll ever get a pearl the size and shape we consider to be valuable. So basically we're telling our kids to dedicate their lives into opening oyster shells for an empty promise. And then she moved on to joking about going to a friend's graduation and not understanding a word of his professor's analogy of life. So she made her own analogy: think of life as a road trip (because she often goes on road trips). Right now, at St George, it's like we're at a car dealership, getting ready to choose our cars for our long trip to the horizon. Some of us will choose Ferraris cause we wanna get to the horizon as quickly as possible, some will choose a laid back van cause we wanna stop and smell the flowers along the way and some will choose Rolls Royce cause we wanna travel in style and be noticed by everyone we past. And during our road trip on the high way, we'll meet some problems like running off into the wrong roads, or the car might break down, and during those moments, we would just have to stop, and think about our situation before bravely reversing and turning back into the main highway. The people in the hall - our parents and friends will guide us and act like the NRMA or RTA people. Whereas Miss Whitehead, will become the little bird who'll fly beside our windows and when we look out, we'll think to ourselves "hey that's the same little bird I saw 20kms back".. and as we keep driving along, we'll eventually not recognise that same little bird... and then Miss said that, however, we should all remember that she'll always be there to watch over us when we burst a tires or run into dead ends etcetc  - at this point Miss bursted out into tears, I cried and so did everyone else. So yeah.. After that everyone got their graduation portfolios and Celia and Winnie gave a brilliant piano performance.

getting my graduation portfolio from the principle

Afterwards, we had a Garden Party with our parents and teachers where we took our last photos in school uniform and my parents and Peter (my brother) bought me a big teddy and a bouquet of flowers.
Vicki also made us cookies!

With Family:

With Buddies:

The day ended with hugs and kisses, and everyone headed off with either friends for a girls night out, or like me, went with their parents for a nice family dinner.

 It's been a while...
Sorry I've been neglecting you for a while.
It's just been so hectic for the past few week because of trials and the fact that I've started to tutor my brother since he's going to yr11 next yr... I never knew preparing tutor work was so time consuming! O x O;;
mm. I graduate in approximately a month. Last day of school is on the 20th of September and our graduation is on the 23rd. *sigh...
Gees.. time sure goes by fast. :S
Trials results come out in the following 2wks. Lets just hope I did alright. > x <;;
Now it's time to get all the uni applications, scholarships and stuff like that done.
Oh! And also cram for the actual HSC exam which starts in 2months time - 18th of October!

Future plans?
Well.. I'm going back to Hong Kong then China on the 5th of December! Can't wait to see my little cousins!
And buy lots and lots of things. Like.. stationery.. game consoles... books... and especially clothes for uni cause since I've been at school all this time, and we wear school uniform everyday, there was really no need to buy clothes. But that will all change in uni. *sighhhhhhhhhhhh gotta start saving up. ):
But yeah!
What else... Oh! I changed my hair!
Are you ready?!

Yeah.. I got my hair trimmed, new fringe and dyed it a darker colour.
Personally I kind of dislike my straight fringe so I'm gonna grow it out. Other than that, it's all good.

Also, Sydney Boys started their trials mid last week, so Benson's been studying very hard.
This means that I haven't been able to see him for a while.. and that I can't bug him, but to support him instead. And because I've finished my trials, I was able to help him with his studies here and there and it just feels very nice that I have the power to do so. :D
He finishes next week Tuesday. So.. it'll be a while. (:

mm.. That's it I guess!
I'll try to write more often from now on since all school assessments are finished!
(:

 UMAT 2011
I took the UMAT exam at 1:30pm inside the SYDNEY SHOWGROUND today.. and all I have to say is that: it was hard. lols
..Well atleast harder than all the medentry and face to face papers that I did. And trust me, I finished plenty.
But the thing is, the practice papers did help with my way of thinking.
So it wasn't really a waste of time doing them.
mm all in all, I hope I did well. hahas. ((:
And I hope everyone else failed. lols. joking.
But there was a huge mixture of kids from private schools, selective schools, normal schools, even uni kids taking the exam today.. so.. hahahs.

tired after 4hrs of continuous exam... and waiting for my dad to pick me up in the cold

Not very confident. :O

First Day of Last School Term
It wasn't as bad as I thought. But Kogarah was certainly much more colder, like the wind was "icy" and I was just shivering the whole day. And everything seemed to past quite slow today.. compared to the holidays at least.
And I ended up working through my 2 free periods and lunch! *feels good

We finish early by half an hour on Tuesdays and since Zahav (childhood friend for 10yrs!) texted me to catch up after school, I went to meet up with him and we had our chat over a cup of coffee at Gloria Jeans.
((:

And now I'm home at 5pm, just before it rained as well! :D

 Smart Cookie
On Friday, Sophia from our maths class signed out and is leaving for Stanford University in California, US. It's not surprising that she made it in as she is smart to the max! I mean she was even specially invited to a university in China at the beginning of last year, and came back half way through the year with a new maths degree. Talk about obtaining stack loads qualifications early!

Our maths teacher organised a farewell party where she baked us an apple pie and especially brought in some unwaxed apples fresh from the farm of a friend! She was saying how much better it was better for us and that we didn't have to eat the pie if we didn't want to but she'll just feel very sad about it.
She's so nice and sweet to us! *dies
There were a lot of giggles and during the party, Miss started talking about her past and it was extremely interesting. Not many people would have gone through what she has in her lifetime. But due to privacy matters, I can't talk about the events here.

The party ended with well used paper plates and a few photographs here and there. OH! and a Mechanics solution on the board written by yours truly. LOL!
But yeah. All in all, I wish this smart cookie all the best and it's fantastic that she doesn't have to go through the HSC anymore. hahahs.

 Chemistry Excursion
Went to University of Sydney today for a chemistry kickstart workshop.
We had to pay $25 to do some experiments linked to the 'monitoring and management' topic which were too expensive to perform at school. Usually schools would just assume the results and learn about the experiments via textbooks but it was nice that we were able to get a first hand experience.

The course actually got pushed back by an hour which I wasn't very happy about and so all our experiments were done sloppily due to the time constraint. This also meant that the instructors had to skip certain explanations and procedures in the experiments which wasn't preferable, Luckily they supplied us with a booklet which had most of the information inside and we were very time efficient and managed to not make any mistakes during our experiments therefore was able to finish the pracs before the 2hrs we had inside the lab.

Also the equipments they had were very traditional and dated and the lab coats they gave us had pen*ses drawn on the back. But other than that, there's not much to complain about.
The instructors were very casual and nice, some were a little more socially inept than others but it was all good.

Overall it was an okay experience, but poorly managed.

*I wasn't allowed to take photos within the lab (didn't have time to anyways), but the school of chemistry wasn't anything spectacular so yeah.

 2011 school dance
TECHCON 2011: the annual school dance with St George Girls and Sydney Tech
Us yr12s were allowed to dress up with the theme of "Movie Characters" and our group did Geishas. Other groups included Playboys, Babies, Prisoners of BOS, Disney Princesses, Anime Characters, Mario Brothers ..etc.
mm Overall I wasn't impressed. At All. We were not allowed to take drinks in and when the little canteen place ran out of change, they just closed the store with me holding a $10 note. And this was not even half way through the night! Just imagine how thirsty everyone got afterwards. =.=;
The music was awful as well.. and it was very humid inside the centre...it was just ... bad. ):
But I still managed to enjoy my time with friends so yeah.
Not really worth 10bucks if you ask me. :S

photos from the night:

 WALKATHON!
Today we had our annual school Walkathon, a day where yr12s get to set up our own stalls and sell goodies while the other years ask for sponsors and then walk to a beach at San Souci (10km)! This is a tradition of St Georgians and the money fundraised is used improve certain things around the school, decided by the SRC group.

Usually we would set up our stalls at the park near the beach but since the past few days have had such bad weather, the school decided today was going to be rainy as well so they made us set up at school and get the girls to walk back to school from the beach instead. But guess what. TODAY WAS A PERFECTLY SUNNY DAY! )):
But then again.. I guess it's better in a way that we don't have to move the tables back and forth by car and stuff so it was all good.

Our stalls were reviewed by the prefects and they included fun activities like nail art, tattooing, jump castles etc. As well as yummy food and drink stalls with pizza, cookies, Korean rice cakes, soft drinks, easy way and such! Our stall consisted of both food and drink! We were lucky enough to get sponsored by Baker's Delight (Rockdale) and Gloria Jeans (Rockdale) and were able to sell yummy freshly baked bread and refreshingly tasty Italian Soda! Our group consisted of 8 people including: Mish Lu, Mish Liang, Catherine.Z, Liza.W, Vicki.T, FiTao, Ellen.C and I! While the two Mishes were in charge of collecting the money, Catherine, Liza, Vicki and Fitao were responsible for the bread selling. That leaves Ellen and I with the job of making the awesome Italian Soda! :9

The Italian soda was a great success and with the meal deals, we were able to sell out super fast! In fact we finished like three hours in advance! :D
There was a profit of a total of over $150 and so we finished the day early with a few photos and headed to Liza's apartment to watch White Chicks!

 6+yrs of mystery!? solved.
The mystery of purple esters has been solved by our proud chemistry class taught by Ms Whitehead (5CH1) today on the 9/2/2011!!
The story behind this is that, ever since my teacher started teaching at St George Girls High School, certain groups have gotten purple products during our ester practicals (as a part of the acidic environment topic in chemistry). But this year, we have decided to control our experiments as real student chemists. We did this by setting certain groups with different variables which the teachers of the science staffroom have come up with.
These variables include:
- dirty boiling chips (everyone in our class was given brand new boiling chips except one group who were using the old boiling chips)
- the level of heat placed upon the reactants (certain groups had to put the bunsen burner to the side of the water bath away from the pear shaped flasks while others were placed directly under the pear shaped flask - with the water bath of course)
- the amount of sulfuric acid (conc) as a catalyst (some groups added a few drop while others followed the usual 1mL input)

In the end, everyone had clear esters except for one group!
And it was....
The group with the heat directly under the experiment!
Their ester had turned, deep red then purple!
And our teacher was very proud that her hypothesis was correct *giggles
but yeah.
In conclusion, too much heat placed upon the reactants would result in the burning of the alkanoic acids and alkanols and thus causes the products to turn purple!

 TAKE IT HEAD ON!!
I officially dropped down to 10Units today with a sad byebye to Ms Dooner and her French Class.
She tried so hard to convince me to stay. Saying that "only 1 girl got band 5 last yr with the rest all on band 6s" but the truth is, I just can't manage to waste anymore of my time on extra units. The main reason is that extII maths is very demanding and I just can't afford to keep extra units which are apparently my "safety nets", whereby in reality is what's actually pulling me down and draining me out.
But it was a very emotional moment for us both. She's just such a sweet teacher! )))):

But yeah.. Now I have to do well in all my subjects because they will all count!
Hope I don't regret this decision later on though.
FIGHTINGGGG!

 package from lisa.
a little package arrived today in the mail ! :D
it was a package all the way from Canada sent by Lisa (a beauty guru on youtube) and i just couldn't wait to open it. heheh.
and BAM! it turn out to be the Balmbini palette from The Balm.
Lisa also left a note with the package and her handwriting is just so adorable!

I love the packaging of this palette! It's made out of cardboard but you can tell that it's very sturdy.
The packaging's very similar to the ones of 'Benefit'.
The palette comes along with all the "babies" of the most popular items from the balm including 2 blushes (in Downboy and HotMama), 1 highlighter (in Mary-Lou Manizer), 2 eyeshadows (in Insane Jane and Jealous Jordana), 1 lipstick (in Wanted) and 1 special edition gloss.
My favourite would have to be the the blusher in Downboy.
It's such a wearable matte blush that I believe would suit most light to medium skin tones.
Everything in the palette has really decent pigmentation and the powders are very fine.
And if anyone is looking for a dupe for Nars Orgasm, Hot Mama from The Balm would do just fine.
What is also good about this face palette is that it is formulated, FREE OF: parabens, sulfates, phthalates, GMOs and Triclosan. So you know you're not harming your skin!
However, I wasn't very pleased (you can say I was disappointed) with the Special Edition gloss as it appears to be of a muted coral beige in the package but is actually clear when swatched or applied to the lips.

- this palette retails for around US$30 (you can get it at sephora for $28)

anyways about my day..
mm I just went to school. nothing really happened there.
but one thing is that it's been super hot.
like.. hottest week in 150yrs and it's going to get hotter throughout the week.
not good... and what made it even worse was that I caught a cold.. in this 40'C heat!
grr.

 1st school day of 2011
Got my timetable. It's not very pleasant. Like literally.. on Mondays, I have 3hrs of nothingness.
I dislike how they put the compulsory subjects at the end of the day so that everyone has to stay at the school.
*sighhhh

Today was an easy day.. just assemblies and introductions to the new year.
However it was extremely hot!!! Like 37'C+ and out school doesn't have any fans so it was like an oven in the classroom.

Also, we received our diaries during period 4! They're so much more bulky and uglier than last year's. grr
Like literally 1/4 of it was filled with random/useless facts.. what a waste of paper. I would've been happier if it was just a normal diary with dated and lined pages as well as relevant space to date our work.

But yeah.. that was my day. Nothing much happened. Just had tuition for Chemistry with Anson an hour ago.. am I extremely tired. But I will push on!
Just like what Mr Morris said:

"Just because you go to a selective school, doesn't mean you automatically get high marks. The only advantage you have is that you're up against some of the most talented kids in the state, right in this room. Not you, but the people around you. Thus the only way to get there in the end, is to support each other and put your heads down, bums up and work hard for it."

As sad as that sounds. I truly agree.

As in 'Hiccup' or take it 'As You Like It' - note the pun?

- Principal didn't allow me to put that as my jersey name, so instead, I now have "He&Me"

hahah. I HATE STUDYING AOS. ):
And thus. I Belong...
